Open call of self-publishing house "Unknown Person" and Kafedra Gallery
"Unknown Person" announces the VII open-call for collective project SIGNAL, which will take place in a public art format in autumn 2024 in one of the European spaces. A small-print book and online project will also be published. Deadline: 1 September, 2024

SIGNAL
People build huge telescopes and send signals into space searching for intelligent life.
At the same time, millions of lives right here on Earth are under mortal threat - due to wars, famine, ecological disasters.

Who can participate?
Artists and writers over 18 years old from any country are welcome to apply. We have no gender restrictions, and we do not take into account your fame, exhibition experience, or existing publications. You can submit your work anonymously if you wish.
Work format
Textes
Use up to 2000 characters and genre of essay, autofiction, poetry (any language).
Illustrations, photos, collages
Use .jpg file, resolution 150 or 300 dpi, size 150x210, 210x297, 297x420, 420x594 or 594x841 mm (your choice: horizontal or vertical). We accept work in digital format only (scan, photo or digital image).
Video art
Use .mp4 file with a duration of 10 seconds to 90 seconds, resolution 1080x1080, 1920x1080 or 1080x1920. English subtitles are allowed.
Sound art
Use .wav filea duration of of 30 seconds to 300 seconds
A maximum of one work* (video, text or image) per participant in the Open Call will be accepted for consideration. We reserve the right to select any frame from your video and apply color correction (including black and white) for the book accompanying the exhibition.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT WORKS THAT DEMEAN HUMAN DIGNITY, INCITE HATRED, OR CONTAIN EXPLICIT CONTENT (18+).
* WARNING: We do not accept work that was created before February 2022 and has previously been involved in other projects or been part of a learning experience.
Results of open call
Results of the open call will be announced in autumn 2024. The format of the project will be determined based on the specifics of the selected works by the curators. In addition to the participants of the Open Call, we will invite local artists who can create objects and installations. At present, Kafedra Gallery and the self-publishing house 'Unknown Person' are nomadic projects, and we are designing our open calls to ensure adaptability for recreating exhibitions in any space.
