The Unknown Person publishing house and Kafedra Gallery announce the VIII open call for the collective international project "Body borders", which will take place in a public art format and online in autumn 2025. A small-print book will also be published. Deadline: 15 June, 2025

Body borders
The body is not an object of power but a shifting, fluid process that breaks through borders, binaries and fixed forms. It slips away from control, becomes a site of resistance.
The body remembers. Pain lingers in its folds, trauma settles in its tissues. It carries the scars of history, moves through time, drawing the past into the present.
A foreign body in a foreign space—without home, without language, without recognition.
A fragile shell against borders, against systems that exclude. It is registered, inspected, contained, reduced to a number, a document, an object of surveillance. And yet—it moves, resists, does not disappear.
The body is a place of memory, exile, protest. But above all, it is a place of life.
Who can participate?
Artists and writers over 18 years old from any country are welcome to apply. We have no gender restrictions, and we do not take into account your fame, exhibition experience, or existing publications. You can submit your work anonymously if you wish.
Work format
Texts
Use up to 2000 characters and genre of essay, autofiction (English language)
Illustrations, photos
Use .jpg file, resolution 300 dpi, size 150x210 or 210x297 mm (your choice: horizontal or vertical). We accept work in digital format only (scan, photo or digital image). You can write an accompanying text that we can use,
if the concept is suitable
Video art
Use .mp4 file with a duration of 10 seconds to 180 seconds, resolution 1080x1080, 1920x1080 or 1080x1920. English subtitles are allowed. We will also print a screenshot from the video that fits the book project
A maximum of one work (video, text or image) per participant in the Open Call will be accepted for consideration. We reserve the right to select any frame from your video and apply color correction (including black and white) for the book.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT WORKS THAT DEMEAN HUMAN DIGNITY AND INCITE HATRED.
Results of open call
Results of the open call will be announced in July 2024. The format of the project will be determined by the curators based on the specifics of the selected works. In addition to the open call participants , we will invite local artists. Currently, Kafedra Gallery and Unknown Person are nomadic projects, and we design our open calls to ensure adaptability, allowing exhibitions and performances to be recreated in any space.
